The second single from Sharon Jones’ newest record “Give the People What they Want" does just that… it’s a grooving track that features one of the best uses of a baritone sax to drive a song I’ve heard in a while. The Dap-Kings are always on their game when recording with Sharon, and on this tune, “Stranger to My Happiness”, it’s no different.
The backup vocals also add some nice classic soul appeal to the tune with their “Oooo’s" on the chorus and the repeated title line, "Feeling like a stranger to my Happi-nesss”. Can’t wait to hear the rest of the record…. which comes out on January 14th (Pre-order the record HERE), followed by a huge tour now that Sharon Jones is healthy after a battle with cancer. There are a lot of imitator bands around these days that are doing similar styles like Sharon and the Dap-Kings, but she is the real deal folks.
Going to see Sharon Jones tonight at a sold-out show; can’t wait!
haha! Poker face, poker face, poker face, poker face, WASTED face.
